Transforming Canine Behavior

I’m John McKay, a balanced and humane dog trainer in Kingston, Ontario. I come to you in-home or at a local park to help you with training your dog.

I love dogs. They are loyal. What you see is what you get. They are good for us and they need to be good in public as well. Nothing drives obedience in dogs as much as a strong reinforcement and clear communication. Dogs double down on what gets them results and abandon what doesn’t. They are a product of their everyday environment. In most cases, tweaks to your approach result in changes in your dog’s behavior.

I use positive reinforcement for basic obedience behaviors. I do not, and will not, use aversive methods. I do not use e-Collars. There are effective and ethical e-Collar trainers, but I personally won’t risk the chance of a dog associating pain or sensation with another dog or person.

My Training:

I have owned and trained dogs since 1973.

I bred, raised, and trained Border Collies for over 20 years. We competed successfully at trials across Canada. I also trained other handlers and their dogs, live on sheep, in preparation for farm work and competition.

In April of 2025, I completed the final exam and graduated from the Beckman Coaching Program. Joel Beckman is an elite marine mammal and canine trainer. Joel’s approach focuses on safe, ethical, and effective methods.
